Final Fantasy XV - everything we know
Wed, 16 Jun 2010, 11:47 am (CDT) by Teggles
While Final Fantasy XV has not been given an official announcement, Square Enix developer Yoshinori Kitase has made various comments about it:

"We’ve got a few ideas for Final Fantasy XV lined up, but there is no singular aim for where we want the series to go. Final Fantasy can go in all directions, each one is very different from the last. The one thing we set out to do is to make sure we tell a story that hasn’t been told before."

"We do not know if there will be a XV. This depends a lot on the success of XIII." ... "But if there is a XV, I hope the way we wrote our characters carries over. We strived to create believable people of flesh and blood. They are not robots. And they are not super heroes. I hope this humanity is something we will see again."

“We don’t have any plans after 13. I have been working with Toriyama for a number of years. In the future, it would be great to work with him again.”

Motomu Toriyama has also commented on it, but revealing less:

"...The next game in the series is an online one, Final Fantasy XIV. After this we’re still working on the Fabula Nova Crystallis series - Agito XIII, Versus XIII. So, even if we do create the next numbered installment it’s so far away that we haven’t really thought of it."

What does this all mean? Nothing seems to have been made final for XV, as ideas are still being thrown around. It's unknown who the developers are, but Product Development Division 1 -- led by Yoshinori Kitase -- seems like a strong candidate. The team was responsible for Final Fantasy X and XIII, so XV may be similar to to FF10 and FF13. Another strong possibility is Yasumi Matsuno's Division 4, who directed Final Fantasy XII.
